Poodle Obedience Training

Whether you have a new poodle puppy, or an older poodle, the most important thing you can do for it today, is to put it through some poodle obedience training.

Teaching poodle obedience to your dog will allow him to understand what is expected of him in any given situation.  Poodle obedience training is not difficult, it is just a matter of having the right knowledge and then applying that knowledge in a consistent manner.

The Benefits Of Poodle Obedience Training

For starters, poodles in obedience training will quickly learn to respond to the specific commands that you give.  Many people neglect their responsibility of providing their dog with the correct training.  By not teaching obedience training it will be difficult to control your dog in certain situations, and can if fact place him in danger.

Basic Commands –

Poodle obedience training will arm you with basic commands needed to control your dog.  Sit, down, stay, and heel, are basic commands that every dog should understand and obey. These four behaviors will form the foundation of whatever you want to teach them later.

Leadership –

In obedience training, you will learn how to assert your dominance over the dog, and demonstrate to them that you are in charge.  When these behaviors are replicated in your home, the dog will have a much easier time following your lead. Alpha leadership is the cornerstone of all good training.

Walking –

Does your poodle take you for a walk?  Does he continually pull on the lead and go where he wants?  In a good training class, you’ll learn how to control your poodle’s movements.  You’ll be able to keep them from running around on you, and teach them to sit and heel on command.

Biting or Barking –

Two of the most concerning problems that a poodle can have are biting and barking. Different levels of poodle obedience training can deal with these specific behaviors and ensure that your poodle does not act out of line. Biting in particular must be dealt with at a young age.

Poodle obedience training is vital in many ways because it provides the foundation for all the situations that arise at home. If your dog is under a year old or simply does not behave properly, consider an obedience class to help you get started.

What To Do At Home

Poodle obedience training is just the start. Your dog may learn a few basic commands in the class.  But if you cannot carry through with the training at home, you will not be able to maintain the control you need.  You should be consistent, show your dog that you’re in charge at all times, and make sure everyone in the household understands the training process.

Remember that your poodle will only do what it is taught to do. The key is to be consistent with the commands you give.  As soon as you stop asserting your authority your dog will revert back to the original behaviors that you worked so hard to train him out of.
